Lpg Autogas Slashes 4wd Petrol Bills

OWNERS of some of Australia's most popular large four-wheel-drive vehicles can now halve their fuel bills thanks to the newly launched LPG Autogas installation kits.

Apollo Gas has responded to the booming popularity of 4WD wagons and utes by developing versions of its proven Landi Renzo LCS2 system.

The system can be fitted to the following engines: Ford Territory 4.0-litre six, Holden Rodeo 3.5 litre-V6, Nissan Patrol 4.8-litre six, Toyota new-generation HiLux 4.0-litre V6 and LandCruiser 4.7-litre V8.

According to industry statistician VFACTS, Ford Territory, launched on the Australian market in May 2004, is now Australia's most popular 4WD.

"Given the trends in the car market, we believe there's a lot of demand out there for fuel-saving options for increasingly popular 4WDs, particularly now that petrol is reaching $1.20 a litre," technical manager for Apollo Gas, Hilbert Klaster said.

Mr Klaster said that on average the Autogas installation would cut the fuel bills for big 4WDs by half.

Tests on HiLux 4.0-litre V6 showed that, while fuel economy dropped by 25 per cent, the dramatically lower cost of Autogas of approximately 40.0 cents a litre more than outweighed that drop.

On Autogas the peak power of the HiLux engine remained similar at 109kW, measured at the wheels on a chassis dynamometer, as opposed to 116kW on petrol.
