With the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class 4WD arriving six weeks earlier than expected deals on the current model have firmed with savings of $13,000. Standard ML models are now thin on the ground but Special Edition variants introduced only in April with no-cost extras represent outstanding value.
Mercedes-Benz of Sydney has a number of ML 350 Special Edition five-seaters for $79,990 drive-away, normally about $93,000 on-road. The seven-seat version is $82,820 drive-away and provides much the same saving. The diesel ML 270 CDI and 5.0-litre V8 ML 500 Special Editions are all but sold out.The Special Edition 3.7-litre V6 ML 350 with seven-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox gets a number of styling, comfort and convenience updates.Visually, they are distinguished by special 17-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels with 275/55 wide-profile tyres, a special AMG grille and bonnet with two power domes, anodised aluminium roof railing, tinted glass on the tail lights and chrome facings on the door handles.Other features include ML 55-style power front sports seats with leather and Alcantara inserts, leather trim on the steering wheel, gearshift and selector lever as well as sections of the doors.Special touches include the choice of wood features in light birch with natural-grain finish or black burr walnut. Instrumentation differences include white needles and chrome dial surrounds, a sliding cover for the centre console with wood finish and velour floor mats. The M-Class 4WD arrived here in September 1998 and more than 13,000 have been sold.Correction: Last week's Marketplace said Peter Warren Ford at Warwick Farm had a Ford Fiesta LX for $13,990 drive away. This should have been $13,990 plus on-road costs.
