Increased competition and weak sales have prompted Land Rover to add free on-road costs to its 4.0-litre V6 petrol Discovery 3 SE automatic 4WD wagon - saving $6210.
The move is aimed at reversing the 22 per cent sales slump in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period last year. The popular seven-seat Discovery 3 SE V6, $63,990 drive-away, has six-speed automatic transmission with sports mode, eight airbags, electronic air suspension, stability control, anti-lock brakes, traction control, cruise control, climate control air-conditioning, 18-inch alloy wheels, CD player, remote central locking and power windows and mirrors.Additional features include leather trim, rear parking sensors, headlamp washers, bi-xenon headlights and a split tailgate. Folding the seats flat gives 2558 litres of cargo space, 1.9m in length.Options include metallic paint at $1500 and a centre-locking differential at $815.The 2.7-litre V6 turbo diesel TDV6 SE Discovery 3 seven-seater is not generally available with free on-road costs but Purnell Brothers at Blakehurst has this model for $77,750 drive-away - a saving of $5365. Features on the turbo diesel SE are the same for the petrol SE. Late last year the TDV6 SE Discovery 3 took out the NRMA Best Car Award for all-terrain vehicles for the second consecutive year.Introduced late in 2004, the Discovery 3 has integrated engineering that combines monocoque body construction with a conventional ladder frame for improved torsional stiffness. The Discovery also comes with Land Rover's patented Terrain Response system that lets the driver dial in one of five terrain settings via a rotary dial on the centre console. Settings include a general drive program, one for slippery conditions and three for off-road. Terrain Response then automatically selects the most appropriate settings for the Discovery's electronic control and traction aids including ride height, engine torque response, hill descent control, electronic traction control and transmission and differential settings.
